Yurtward Bound was founded on a shared belief in the power of nature, community, and experiential learning. Built by leaders with deep roots in outdoor hospitality and over a decade of experience in education and youth development, the camp blends wilderness adventure with thoughtful, student-centered programming.
With expertise in leadership and community building, the staff at camp are committed to creating an inclusive, engaging, and safe environment where every camper can explore, grow, and feel a true sense of belonging.

Caitlin Harrigan
co-Founder & directorCaitlin brings over a decade of experience in education, leadership, and student support to her role as Camp Director. She holds a Master’s in Science Education from the University of Southern Maine and a B.A. in Communication from St. Lawrence University. Caitlin has served as a teacher, leadership team member, and assessment coordinator in Portland Schools, where she’s known for her collaborative style, equity-focused mindset, and student-centered approach. Her past work includes leading STEM programs, organizing professional development, and building strong family and community partnerships. Caitlin is passionate about creating inclusive, engaging, and safe environments where all campers can thrive.
Page Atherton
co-Founder & directorPage Atherton is the proud owner of Maine Forest Yurts, where she blends her love for the outdoors with a passion for creating unique and memorable experiences in the heart of Maine’s wilderness. When she’s not welcoming guests to the yurts, Page enjoys guest teaching at Durham Community School, sharing her energy and kindness with local students. A devoted wife and mom to three wonderful daughters, Page finds joy in family time, Maine’s natural beauty, and a good round of golf. Friendly, fun, and grounded, she embodies everything she loves about her home state—community, nature, and a genuine love for life.
